The Challenge

We were approached by a leading Defence Marine Systems company to run a graduate recruitment campaign for STEM Graduates, in the fields of:

  • Systems Engineering

  • Software Engineering

  • Sonar and Submarine Signature Development

  • MoD Research and Development

  • Project Management

They were previously using a large bank of different recruitment agencies, but wanted a single source to complete their graduate recruitment campaign to reduce time to hire, duplication of candidates and to give each individual a far better recruitment experience.

The STEM field can be very competitive, with some larger organisations having multiple teams of recruiters to deliver their graduate campaigns. We worked with this company to deliver a personalised graduate project where high levels of satisfaction where received by both job seekers and the client.

The Strategy

  • Met with Head of Engineering and HR to fully understand the brief and requirements

  • An efficient hiring strategy was agreed to ensure correct criteria of results along with any relevant professional experience plus personality fit

  • We prepared a summary background of our client for initial graduate approach, created a graduate pack including:

    • Interview guide, with key tips and helpful info

    • Prior graduate feedback and a 'Day in the Life'

    • A 'Welcome to the Area' guide to help graduates who were relocating to the area

  • Key word search parameter including universities and grades to identify potential graduates.

Results:

  • Long-listed and reviewed 600 CVs for available roles prior to client submission

  • Provided 53 selected CVs for 10 vacancies

  • Client invited 32 candidates for interview

  • 27 candidates accepted and intended group assessment and interview day

  • 14 selected for final stage interview process 

  • 9 job offers and 7 accepted

  • Recruited the remaining 2 vacancies at a later stage of a secondary process
